UV Lights Fight Germs in Northern Atlanta and Marietta

The air in your home is filled with any number of contaminants including germs like bacteria and viruses. But, while a proper filter and air cleaner can remove most contaminants, only a UV germicidal light system can effectively remove microscopic living pathogens from your indoor air.

That’s why Cool Air Mechanical offers UV germicidal light installation services in Atlanta and the surrounding metro area. Whether you are ready to have a new UV light installed or need someone inspect or repair your current UV system, call us today for service.

How UV Germicidal Lights Work

A UV germicidal light is a small apparatus installed in your ductwork to kill bacteria and viruses as they pass. These systems are effective because they use a concentrated beam of UV light in a confined space to kill only those microscopic bacteria and viruses.

UV light or Ultraviolet light is a naturally occurring wavelength of light produced by the sun. In fact, every day, when you go outside, you are bombarded with UV rays – if you are exposed to too many of them and you get a sunburn. Because UV light is less stable than the light we can see, it is more dangerous. It causes cell damage relatively rapidly on a cell–by–cell basis. So, with time, it can severely burn your unprotected skin.

For a single cell organism like a bacterium or virus, the effect is nearly instant destruction of the cell. So, while a UV germicidal light won’t do any damage to your family members or pets, it will kill all of the microbial pathogens in your ductwork rapidly.

Atlanta and Alpharetta UV Germicidal Light Installation

If you feel a UV germicidal light is a good fit for your home, the installation process is quick. Because it is installed within the ductwork, it is often placed near your air handler where it can affect all of the air passing through. The system must be accessible for maintenance as well, so usually, it is placed near a junction that can be easily accessed in the future. This makes the installation process quick and easy and since it is so close to the air handler, maintenance can be performed when the rest of your air quality system and air handler are inspected each year.

There are no filters or cartridges to worry about either, so cleaning is not necessary by you and the system will work consistently for years without needing to be replaced.

If it is time to have a UV germicidal light installed in Marietta, Decatur, or other Atlanta area home, now is the time to call Cool Air Mechanical. One of our indoor air quality experts will discuss your options with you and set up a time to perform the installation.
